How k-Anonymity Protects Your Privacy:
When you type your password, your browser generates a 40-character SHA-1 hash. Only the first 5 characters (e.g. 21BD8) are sent to the server. The server retrieves hundreds of hashes matching that 5-character prefix, and your browser completes the matching locally. Neither CyberExpert nor HaveIBeenPwned ever knows your actual password.
